Dog Whistle Sounds 12000Hz- 44000Hz sound samples, Acme Whistles today. (4)

Dog Whistles Sounds, Acme WhistlesToday. (At work )

Some of the  material was borrowed from Acme Whistles Ltd. which are the largest and oldest whistle manufacturers of whistles in the U.K and from the web site ; http://www.jetcityorange.com
The Factory is a great place to visit if you love whistles and ever go to Birmingham. *(see note).
I Hope to I  record samples of many of the whistles in previous entries soon.

A dog whistle (also known as silent whistle or Galton's whistle see other entries) is a type of whistle used in the training of dogs and cats It was invented by Francis Galton. This is discussed quite briefly in his book Inquiries into Human Faculty and its Development (Galton 1883:27). In his discussion (Galton 1883:26-27) of his experiments to test the range of frequencies that could be heard by various animals including humans, he notes that cats had the most sensitive hearing, being able to hear notes too shrill for humans to hear from a considerable distance.
Small dogs can also hear these notes, while large dogs cannot.

The frequency range of a dog whistle is largely out of the range of human hearing. Typically, a dog whistle is within the range of 16000 Hz to 22000 Hz with only the frequencies below 20000 Hz audible to the human ear. Some dog whistles have adjustable sliders for active control of the frequency produced.

Can you hear a dog whistle? Probably not. Dogs hear higher freqencies better than people do. That's why dog whistles seem to be silent. Dogs hear the high frequency sounds that we can't. High frequency sounds usual travel further than voices and can be heard further away.

Dog trainers use dog whistles to get a dog's attention. Hand signals are often combined with dog whistles. A dog whistle can be made of plastic or metal. Some think different breeds react to different high frequecies. Smaller dogs are more sensitive to higher frequencies compared to larger dogs.

You can click on these files and try to hear them. You may not but I'll bet your dog or cat will! Play them through good speakers if you're going to listen to them.  These dog whistle MP3 and dog whistle WAV files can be used to train your pet.

Open speakers and click on to listen,  note that some frequencies are very irritating.

Dog Whistle 0 (WAV) Dog Whistle 0 (MP3) = 12000 Hz

Dog Whistle 1 (WAV) Dog Whistle 1 (MP3) = 16000 Hz

Dog Whistle 2 (WAV) Dog Whistle 2 (MP3) = 20000 Hz

Dog Whistle 3 (WAV) Dog Whistle 3 (MP3) = 24000 Hz

Note * At some point I should bring my personal impressions of a great visit I had at the factory
few years back trying to learn more about whistles.
Mr. Simon Topman is a great person And The Manager and owner of the Acme / J Hudson (whistles) Ltd. today. He also wrote and published with the great whistle scholar Mr. Martin Gillchrist, the well known book about police whistles "Police Whistles and Simmilar Types" which is the best book on the subject.
