Muhlenfed Company - Franz August Muhlenfeld - Barmen - Whistle manufacturer &  maker of police and military supplies.
Late 19th Century to an unknown date c. 1920s possibly 1930s.

Muhlenfeld Company was a manufacturer of Police and Military items Sabres, Helmets , Gun Holsters, restrainers- Handcuffs and whistles among others items dated to WW1 period were found.

Location- Based in the small German town of Barmen which was one of five towns which became the city of Wuppertal in 1921.
Items of this company are considered very rare weather it is Handcuffs or Helmets or whistles.

Whistles

The company made few types of police whistles including G.S.W.'s and escargot types,

The whistle shown here is a two note tubular whistle stamped "Polizei Pfeife / Fr. Aug. Muhlenfeld/ Barmen"
a 3 line stamp.

The whistle shows few very distinct features and is the only one ever noted by the author ,
might be the only sample known.

                           

The two notes are pitched to a Major third interval actual notes being G & B
noteably uncommon interval for police whistles and lower than the usual register.
Wide opening mouthpiece That fits over the body.
Unique diaphragm.
Length;   89mm Body ; 16.85mm.  
It has a magnificent  cast top loop- Knop  reminiscent of the British Coney & Co. made knops.

Catalogue exerpts.

                      

                               A two note cylinderical whistle Model No. 86 taken from catalogue.
                            a shorter model than the one disscussed with a different mouthpiece.

Escargot shaped referee whistle made of Nickel plated brass, model # 84.  

                                             
Price list from the catalogue shows that the price of the tubular two notes whistle (G.S.W.) was actually 4 times that of the escargot. both being made of nickel plated brass.
             
Pictures taken out of a catalogue of the firm "August Mühlenfeld GmbH, Barmen" from the 1920s for police equipment ( also contains guns, holsters, swords & handcuffs) .
