2) Wood of different kinds .
3) Metal.
Slide whistles are either Musical Instruments used in music or as sound effects.
or Toys. and are made by either Musical Instruments makers and whistle makers, or Toy makers & Companies.
The origin of the slide whistle starts somewhere along the development of Slide trumpets trombones and early brass instruments in Italy and Germany . in the pictures below one may see a page from a book , 1618 describing musical instruments, and a slide trumpet made in Britain 1897, it is in the National Music Museum and one may look and admire the more detailed pictures.

A very early 1800's Musical instrument, large wood slide whistle, 50cm closed and about 70 cm open.

Slide whistles have a range of one octave, and are usually pitched at C concert note.

this one was made in Germany 1950s, simmilar variations
were made at the U.K and the U.S.A. since the late 1940s.

I have a wooden swanee whistle, that sounds like a cuckoo. 20cm long;2mm across;tubular;plunger tube is lined with soft leather; plunger has hole on top, of diameter 7mm and a smaller hole at the end of diameter 5mm. How old is it likely to be?

my husband found the USA orpahn annie whitsle years ago when he was a kid and just for kick digging under the front porch, recenlty it turned up and we were curios about it, can anyone tell us more about it, what it is worth? could someone please e-mail me at lickwidkitty@yahoo.com? i really don't know where else to ask about this or look??
